Brian Brooks, former CLO of Coinbase, has joined the Hashdex Board of Directors.

Hashdex, a global pioneer in crypto asset management, announced the appointment of Brian Brooks to its Board of Directors. The board has grown from four to five members. Brooks, a representative of Hashdex investor Valour Capital Group, will serve as a strategic advisor, providing counsel on global regulation to advance Hashdex’s global market growth.

Hashdex, best known for co-creating the Nasdaq Crypto IndexTM (NCITM) alongside Nasdaq, offers global investors with a trustworthy benchmark for the crypto asset class. Hashdex launched the world’s first crypto ETFs and other innovative products in 2021, allowing over 225,000 investors to easily and safely add crypto to their portfolios.

Brooks, known as the “first fintech Comptroller,” is a visionary global leader in financial services, fintech, and cryptocurrency. His career has been highlighted by historic achievements in bank charters, such as issuing the first fintech and crypto licences and fostering bank-fintech collaborations. As a member of Hashdex’s Board of Directors, Brooks will strengthen the company’s efforts to bridge the crypto ecosystem and traditional finance, driving institutional adoption and expanding critical partnerships with financial institutions and policymakers throughout the world.

Brooks formerly worked as the CEO of two blockchain-focused firms and as the chief legal officer of global cryptocurrency exchange Coinbase. He was also the acting US Comptroller of the Currency, in charge of the US government office that charters and oversees the national banking system. He was a member of the FDIC’s board of directors and a voting member of the Financial Stability Oversight Council.

Brooks is currently a Managing Partner at Valour Capital Group, a Venture Capital fund manager created in 2011 that pioneered the “Cross-Border” approach, which seeks to operate as a bridge between the U.S. and Latin American technology sectors. Valour, which invests in transformative enterprises from the startup to scale-up stages, led Hashdex’s Series A round and has been assisting the company with strategic, commercial development, and regulatory activities in Brazil and overseas.
