According to Bloomberg, the United States will challenge a Montenegro court’s decision to send Do Kwon, a co-founder of Terraform Labs, to South Korea.
Kwon’s lawyer, Goran Rodic, sent out a text message on Thursday informing his client that he will not be challenging the decision made by a Montenegro court to extradite him to South Korea after March 23.
According to a statement released by the Justice Department on Thursday, “the United States continues to seek Kwon’s extradition in accordance with relevant international and bilateral agreements and Montenegrin law.” Bloomberg reported this. “The Montenegrin authorities’ cooperation in ensuring that everyone is subject to the rule of law is greatly appreciated by the United States.”
Kwon’s birthplace South Korea and the United States have been engaged in a legal battle over his extradition.
Following the fall of Terra in the middle of 2022, Kwon has been under the scrutiny of international authorities, notably Interpol. Investor monies of billions of dollars were lost in Terra’s collapse, and Kwon fled to Montenegro, where he was apprehended for having forged official credentials. His extradition’s destination is being decided by the Montenegrin courts.
