The Philippine Blockchain Week (PBW) event earlier this month featured the Miss Universe Coin initiative, which the Miss Universe Organisation has categorically denied any connection to. According to PBW, it is in touch with all parties concerned and will shortly give an update.
A project named Miss Universe Coin was unveiled at PBW earlier this month. During the event, Donald Lim, the founder of the company in charge of the PBW, announced that the PBW would “launch the Miss Universe Coin.” Weeks following the announcement, the Miss Universe organisation officially dissociated itself from the currency initiative and referred to it as a hoax.
The Miss Universe Organisation and JKN Global Group, the organisation in charge of the competition, were not connected to the currency initiative that was introduced at the PBW event, according to a post on the Miss Universe official Facebook page on September 22. The organisation states that it will pursue “all legal options with regard to this infringement.”
“There is currently no Miss Universe cryptocurrency or blockchain offering, and these products are in no way involved with the voting or selection process for Miss Universe or the Miss Universe Philippines pageants,” it wrote.
The Miss Universe Organisation declared in a statement that the Miss Universe Coin is a “fraud,” and they anticipate it to be further publicised in other events across the world. “We believe that attendees of upcoming blockchain conferences in Dubai and Singapore may discuss this. Please don’t cover if you notice it there; it’s a scam, they said.
PBW said in a post on Twitter that it is in contact with all parties concerned and will provide an update as soon as it is available. The Philippine Blockchain Week did not respond right away when contacted.
