On Christmas Day, scammers using MS Drainer stole $3 million worth of cryptocurrency.

Scammers still use wallet drainers to target naive cryptocurrency users with phishing websites.

As they continue to use Google Ads to promote malicious fake websites that use wallet draining software, scammers have stolen $3 million worth of cryptocurrencies in a single day.

According to a report on December 21, in 2023, scammers stole $59 million worth of cryptocurrency using MS Drainer. Google Ads were used by the attackers, according to Scam Sniffer, to fool cryptocurrency users into visiting phoney copies of Web3 websites, such as Radient, Zapper, Lido, Stargate, DefiLlama, and Orbiter Finance.

On December 25, the security company reported new occurrences from phishing websites linked to the addresses of the same attackers in their scam database.

On Christmas Day, approximately $3 million was lost to phishing scams, according to Scam Sniffer’s confirmation. According to screenshots released by the company, a combination of WBTC, aPolUSDT, aUSDC, and USDT was taken in different incidents.

According to a company representative, in April 2023, Google Ads security was made aware of the continuous promotion of phoney websites and the usage of wallet-draining software. Scam Sniffer hasn’t received a response from the platform yet.

Users of cryptocurrencies are reminded by the most recent phishing thefts to confirm the legitimacy of websites and transactions that are approved by their Web3 wallets.

Nowadays, phishing scams pose the greatest risk to users. The only thing we as users can do to prevent them is to carefully review each signature request, according to a Scam Sniffer representative.

Scam Sniffer’s recent report on wallet drainer usage discovered 10,072 phoney websites using MS Drainer through 2023. Over 63,000 victims have had their cryptocurrency valued at $58.98 million stolen by the software, according to a Dune Analytics dashboard created to monitor its usage.
