OpenAI has released the official ChatGPT Android app.

The company offered a preorder page in the Google Play Store, allowing people to register for installation once the software is ready.

On July 21, OpenAI announced plans to release an Android version of the popular artificial intelligence (AI) ChatGPT chatbot in the following week. It was first made available to iOS users in May.The firm announced the debut in a tweet and provided a preorder page in the Google Play Store, allowing people to register for installation once the app is ready.

The news follows OpenAI’s previous efforts to improve the safety and transparency of its tools through initiatives such as content watermarking. The corporation has been scrutinised owing to concerns about misinformation generated by its AI.

OpenAI emphasises the Android app’s increased security safeguards over the web version. It will also include features like discussion history synchronisation between devices, similar to the iOS version.

By releasing Android and iOS apps, OpenAI directly competes with Microsoft’s Bing Chat, which also uses OpenAI’s GPT-4 technology. The apps provide an alternative method for testing large language models (LLMs) that does not require the use of a web browser.

The release corresponds with the launch of Google’s Bard chatbot in the European Union and Brazil. Other competitors are also emerging, such as Anthropic, with its Claude 2 assistant, which outperforms OpenAI’s premium version of ChatGPT. ChatGPT had its first traffic fall since its inception in June. The crypto community has embraced ChatGPT and other AI chatbots, with some even using the technology to create new currencies.
