The Worldcoin Foundation, co-founded by Sam Altman, Alex Blania, and Max Novendstern, has announced that the protocol migration of the Worldcoin project to the OP Mainnet will be completed on July 24, 2023.
One of the driving forces behind this endeavour is Sam Altman, the CEO of OpenAI and the founder of ChatGPT. The project’s goal is to improve economic opportunities and facilitate global democratic processes in the Age of AI, and it has also disclosed intentions to expand Orb sign-ups for World ID to more than 35 cities in 20 nations around the world.
The Worldcoin project has published the World ID SDK and minted the Worldcoin token (WLD), which is now transactable on the blockchain. The token was handed to the millions of eligible persons who took part in the beta testing phase. In addition, Tools for Humanity (TFH), a tech business based on the Worldcoin network, has released a new version of the World App. This programme is the only protocol-compatible wallet that currently allows individuals to reserve their part of the WLD digital currency, where regulations allow.
Alex Blania, co-founder of the Worldcoin project and CEO of TFH, emphasised the significance of proof of personhood in the age of AI. “Through its unique technology, Worldcoin aims to provide anyone in the world, regardless of background, geography, or income, access to the growing digital and global economy in a privacy-preserving and decentralised manner,” he explained.
The Worldcoin project was created to address the issue of 4.4 billion people worldwide who lack a legal, digitally verifiable identity. This lack of identity inhibits their involvement in the global economy and access to key services such as government assistance, financial services, and healthcare.
The Worldcoin protocol includes World ID, a privacy-preserving digital identity; the Worldcoin token (WLD), the first digital currency freely distributed to people simply for being a unique human; and World App, the first World ID-compatible app that enables payment, purchases, and transfers globally using digital assets and fiat-backed stablecoins.
The Worldcoin Foundation strives to create more inclusive, fair, and just institutions of governance and the global digital economy. The Worldcoin system, World ID, WLD tokens, and the World App are now available worldwide where laws permit. Orb-verified World ID services are planned to be available in over 35 cities in the next months.
Potential users should be informed, however, that crypto goods can be extremely dangerous, and their regulatory treatment is unclear in many jurisdictions. The technologies that comprise Worldcoin, including the WLD token, are inherently experimental. There is no guarantee that the network will function as intended.
