The largest law firm in the world, Dentons, has revealed intentions to introduce “fleetAI,” a customised variant of ChatGPT that will allow its attorneys to use generative artificial intelligence (AI) in ongoing client situations. The tool will debut in August 2023, according to the announcement, which was made in London.
A chatbot built on OpenAI’s GPT-4 Large Language Model is incorporated into the system to help lawyers perform legal research, create legal material, and find pertinent legal arguments. The upload of numerous legal papers will be made possible by a second fleetAI bot, which will enable the important data extraction, including terms and obligations, for analysis and querying.
Microsoft and Dentons have worked together to make sure that no data entered into fleetAI is used to train the model, that it cannot be viewed by anybody outside of Dentons, and that it is deleted after 30 days. After the debut in August 2023, there will be a 6-week beta testing period, during which practise group leaders will evaluate the comments and create usage advice related to their particular fields of expertise.
Future versions of fleetAI are already being created, and one of them will integrate with Dentons’ current legal robots, which automate data extraction from Companies House and evaluate clients’ employment tribunal claims to forecast results. In addition, a knowledge chatbot and a Business Services chatbot for internal policies are in development.
The CEO of Dentons for the UK, Ireland, and Middle East, Paul Jarvis, highlighted the tool’s revolutionary potential by saying, “The ability to upload and analyse client matter documents at speed and in a secure manner is the real game-changer, we believe Dentons will be the first law firm with the technology to systematically incorporate generative AI into our day-to-day matter workflows.” He continued, “We are certain that fleetAI will fundamentally revolutionise the way we deliver services to customers. The use cases for fleetAI have been established and tested with clients during the development phase.
The introduction of fleetAI marks a significant development in the use of artificial intelligence to the legal sector, notably in the areas of document analysis and legal research. Dentons is putting itself at the forefront of technological advancement in the legal industry with the assistance of Microsoft and a focus on security and client-specific requirements. A second indication of the firm’s focus to utilising technology to improve legal services is its commitment to a portfolio approach, which includes the testing of third-party products.
